In Term 1, 2013 the BUILD Project will begin. BUILD (Building Unified Inspired Living Dreams) is a project where a group of Indigenous youth will come together at the Goldfields Institute of Technology and construct a picnic table under the direction of the General Construction lecturer, Kath Brown.
While the table is being built we will have Allira Henderson from the Cannery Arts Centre, and an Indigenous artist talking with the youth about their dreams, hopes and realities. Once the table is built the ideas and concepts we have formed over the term will be put into one piece of artwork that the youth will draw, paint, burn and etch on the top of the table.
The purpose of this project is to encourage yarning for mental health. To talk about what we dream about, what is really happening in our world and how to get where we want to be. We will also be providing healthy snacks and drinks as part of the nutritional health aspect of the project. All parties involved are excited and looking forward to this fantastic project.
