Kids Fun Day Out 2018
The "Fun Day Out" kid's festival is a bi-annual event, held in March on alternate years to the Esperance Festival of the Wind. It began in 2006, after a 'House of Fun' was created for the 2005 Festival of the Wind. Michelle Crisp, who with several volunteers organised the 'House of Fun', had the vision to hold a bi-annual Children's Festival.
The Children's Festival has increased in both size and attendance over the years, with at least 3000 people attending the last event, indicating the need for such an event in the Esperance Community.
The event is an opportunity for local children to experience a large event that is uusually only available in the big cities. The Fun Day is low cost day, where parents and carers can interact with their children, doing activities that stimulate their imagination, and which can be easily reproduced at home without huge commercial expense.
Positive Outcomes of the Esperance Childrens Festival
- Individuals and families involved in the organisation and running of the fun day gain valuable skills and confidence in managing an event of this magnitude. This has a positive flow on effect within the Community. The whole process including initial meetings, the event, and post event 'volunteer thank you breakfast', is approximately 10 months.
- Friendships and positive working relationships are nurtured between various agencies within the community and lasting networks are formed.
- Volunteers enjoy a sense of satisfaction from contributing to an event that brings so much joy to the children and families.
- Kids and youth activities encourage active outdoor play, musical skills, creativity and positive interaction with peers.
