Escare was established in 1982, and 2003 marks 21 years of community service to the Esperance Region.
ESCARE utilised a $5000.00 grant from the Esperance Shire towards establishing a “Young Persons Project” and includes workshops for young parents and young women.
Escare employed Sandi Wild to promote and facilitate the Young Parents Group and the Young Women’s Project.
A five year strategic plan was put in place in to set guidelines for future projects.
In December 2003, Lyn Kearsley (pictured right) took on the job of family support coordinator whilst Jo Aberle takes maternity leave.
This new childcare program runs on school days and allows parents to to drop their child off at the George Street Centre from 6.30 AM onwards.
In June, Verna Newchurch started as Escare’s first Aboriginal Family Support Worker.
This Group has proved very popular with young mothers in the area so efforts were made to keep it going after the funding from the Shire ends on June 30th.
New funding was received from the Office of Children and Youth. Learn more about the Young Parents Group (archived).
This project kicked off with a ‘Hip Hop and Rap’ workshop facilitated by Damien Keitel (alias DJ Fallout) at Lotteries House on the 26th June.
This Project was run as part of ”National Youth Week 2004″. Rap workshops were run to pass on the skills needed to perform this lyrical genre of music.
The workshop culminated in the production of the wicked ‘Rapworx’ CD, featuring the talents of the young Esperance crew who took part.
The Youth Service had a very busy year. Take a look at the Youth Activity Photo Gallery.
